So the bad news is the first two of the seven Morrissey concerts for which I have tickets have been cancelled/postponed. But the good news is I got a promo copy of the new Fucked Up E.P. in the mail today courtesy of What’s Your Rupture and Solid PR! It’s no secret that Fucked Up is one of the most unique and creative, if not the best punk/hardcore band to come out of the ’00s, but they’ve really outdone themselves with this latest record, the A-side of which is an epic, 18-minute-long “prog-punk masterpiece” — the second in a series of records based on the Chinese Zodiac — that confronts “exploitation and violence against women.” Though only around five minutes in length, B-side “The Black Hats” is also killer. If you miss this band July 21 at Southpaw you are an idiot. OK I admit, I’m going to miss them that night, but don’t think I don’t feel like shit about it!
