The Week in Stuff

[Fist note: because of the holiday weekend, The Week in Stuff is once again a late edition.]

Hey bros and brosephines…hope you are all enjoying your Mems Day Weekend. The AG continues to hang by a third, the birds make their thoughts known on immigration, and HRC gets an unlikely backer. Here is some stuff that happened, and you should know about:

Jeane Palfrey, known as the “DC madam”, appears to be in the middle of a when-will-it-drop sex scandal that will rock the nation’s capital. However, she hasn’t let that stop her from becoming a player in the presidential nominating process. A self described “conservative Democrat”, Palfrey is behind Hillary Clinton. Am not aware of a response from the campaign. I can’t imagine any candidate is thrilled with an endorsement from the underbelly of society like this, but for HRC it might be especially bad, adding to the “ick” factor that is sure to be drummed up by the release of two unfavorable books about her in the near future.

Former DoJ aide Monica Goodling was on the Hill testifying this week. She had a bunch of less than flattering things to say about her old boss, AG Alberto Gonzalez. I will admit the first time I heard/read some of the quotes I got mildly excited, but then I realized if Gonzo has weathered all the other stuff that has come out about him, a few more shady anecdotes are probably not going to bring him down. Also, more importantly, how much does M. Goodling look like Tonya Harding?

Kentucky held gubernatorial primaries on Tuesday, and ethically challenged governor Ernie Fletcher held off ousted Congresswoman Anne Northup, despite considerable support for a change within the state GOP. Democrat Steve Beshear looks set to trounce Fletcher polling nearly 30 points ahead. In a truly baffling move, there seems to be a movement amongst some in the KY GOP to mount a primary challenge to Senator Mitch McConnell, as a form of retribution for backing Northup. One can only imagine the pr debacle that would come from primarying the Senate Minority Leader not because of some seminal issue but because he opposed corruption.

In a very public ceremony the Senate and the President agreed on a controversial immigration bill. Plenty of people are pissed, for a bunch of different reasons. But, apparently the discontent goes beyond humans. A bird reportedly “dropped” on the president while he was speaking in the Rose Garden.

Enjoy your weekend…
