Sketch Report: the Pleasure Forever Rarities Collection

While I’m a fan of Pleasure Forever and their previous incarnations The VSS and Slaves, did this band really warrant a B-sides record?

They only released two studio albums and were around merely a few years as Pleasure Forever after changing their name from Slaves. Their brand of sonic debauchery is pleasant during autumn months, adding a creepy vibe to a Halloween mixtape when sandwiched between Nick Cave and Misfits tracks. But this band wasn’t really prolific enough to necessitate a “lost gems” collection. Furthermore, for this record to be released at the end of May is just baffling. The only time I ever listen to this band is October through December, as songs about the occult sung by dudes wearing Prohibition-era garb rubs me the wrong way when I’m strolling through Prospect Park in 70+ degree weather. This release garners a “kinda sketchy” rating, because I actually do like the band, but thinking about them this time of year makes me want to barf up the hot dogs and Tecate I consumed in the sun yesterday.

The album, titled Bodies Need Rest, releases May 21 on Conspiracy Records. Here is the tracklisting:

1. King Cobra in the Guts of Valhalla
2. Miles Underneath
3. Capricorn Blue
4. Right Back Down in the Middle
5. Black Juju
6. The Bars
7. Our Way
8. Honey Honey
